League fans unite! The wait is finally over – the best rugby players from all around the world are coming to Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup starting this October.

For the first time in a decade, the Rugby League World Cup is returning to Australian shores where 14 teams will battle it out on the field to claim the revered Paul Barrière Trophy as their own. A whopping 28 matches will take place between 27 October and 2 December 2017. Will Australia hold the title for the second cup in a row, or will New Zealand or Papua New Guinea take the home-ground advantage?

In the meantime, here’s our reminder run-down of what’s going on during the competition.

Australia

The Rugby League World Cup 2017 will kick off in Melbourne, Victoria at Rectangular Stadium on 27 October, and will return there for a quarter final in November.

Sydney will host two matches at Allianz Stadium, with Lebanon playing England and Australia. PerthCanberra and Darwin will host matches in October and November, and Brisbane scored the role of hosting the grand finale. Brisbane will also host one of two semi-final games, while fans in Townsville and Cairns will experience World Cup action during six pool matches in October and November.

The final match will be held in Brisbane, Australia.

New Zealand

Across the Tasman Sea, New Zealand will host seven of the 28 matches, including two quarter finals and a semi-final, all taking place across four cities – AucklandHamilton and Wellington in the North Island, and Christchurch in the South Island. The New Zealand pool matches will be played at home against visiting teams from Tonga, Samoa and Scotland.

Papua New Guinea

The island’s capital of Port Moresby will host three games during October and November, all at the National Football Stadium where the PNG national team will play Wales, Ireland and the USA.
